Legal advice is central to family mediation for two reasons.
For these reasons Family Dispute Resolution Practitioners typically urge you to get legal advice because they cannot give you legal advice unless they are a lawyer (Family Law (Family Dispute Resolution Practitioners) Regulations 2008 – Regulation 28). So you might well have to move back and forth between your lawyer and your mediator with all the delays, expense and inconvenience that this creates. Dr Tant is different because he is both a lawyer and a Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner. A one stop shop. As well as having the personal touch that many mediation services don't have, he has the knowledge base both in social work and law.
